Marisa Lee Miller (née Bertetta; born August 6, 1978) is one of the better known Victoria's Secret models. She is an American model and actress who successfully straddles the worlds of Victoria's Secret and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, two of the biggest prizes in modelling.
Marisa is from Santa Cruz, California. She was noticed by two Italian modelling agents (isn't that always the way?) at a San Francisco café, who convinced her at age 16 to fly to Italy. She was in a 1997 modelling search in "Perfect 10" magazine, coming in third, but she was on her way. Her career gathered steam in 2001 when photographer Mario Testino noticed her while she was running a surf school and snapped some shots. This was her big break, and led directly to appearances in Vogue.
Marisa Miller's real fame came in 2002, when Miller burst on the modelling scene like a supernova. She joined Victoria's Secret and also appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. She became a fixture in SI, gracing its pages from 2002-2008. Along the way, Marisa got the usual covers for a top model in fashion magazines such as GQ, Maxim, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Elle, FHM and Vanity Fair.
Marisa's Victoria's Secret career took a leap in 2007 when she appeared in a television commercial for it with Heidi Klum and also appeared in the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. She went on a five-city tour in April-May 2008 to promote the brand. Marisa finally left the brand in late 2010.
Marisa's other jobs have included being spokesperson for the NFL and appearances on reality tv shows. She was a judge on 'Manhunt: The Search for America's Most Gorgeous Male Model' and has made guest appearances on television shows such as 'Entourage' and in films like 'R.I.P.D.' She also was number one on Maxim magazine's Hot 100 rankings and was many other lists.
Marisa is candid about her struggle to overcome self-esteem issues while growing up:
"Growing up I was incredibly shy, I was such a tomboy. I was always wearing baggy pants and big t-shirts. I was really, really self-conscious of my body. So a lot has changed for me personally and Victoria’s Secret has really helped with that. We all have things we’re self-conscious about, I’m not the tallest model in the world and when I started having curves it was really hard for me."Marisa Miller remains a top name in modelling and donates her time to the American Cancer Society and other worthy causes.
