Jessica Hart (born 26 March 1986) is an Australian model. She is famous for walking in the 2012 and 2013 Victoria's Secret Fashion Shows and for appearing in the 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Jessica was born in Sydney, Australia and went to school in Collingwood, Victoria. Jessica entered a modelling competition in 2000 that was sponsored by Chadwick Models and Dolly Magazine and won (she has tried the standard 'discovered in the street' story, but nobody is buying it). This led her to sign with an agency, and soon she was off to New York.
Hart's career built throughout the decade. In late 2008, she shot her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue appearance, and in 2009 contracted to represent Victoria's Secret in its catalogs.
Besides all sorts of covers in Australia, where she is dominant as the hometown girl, Jessica's many covers include:
- Germany: 'Elle' - October 2008; 'Shape' - March 2011
- Italy: 'Elle' - August 2011
- New Zealand: 'Fashion Quarterly' - Autumn 2011; 'Fashion' - March 2011
- Serbia: 'Elle' - September 2011
- Spain: 'Elle' - August 2011; 'Grazia' - October 09 2013
- Switzerland 'L'Officiel' - May 2014
- UK: 'Salt' - March 2012; 'GQ' - April 2014
Jessica has done a little acting as well as modelling, appearing in MTV's 'The City,' but very definitely remains a working model. She remains based in New York, where she bought her mother a downtown apartment, and is still represented by Chadwick Models - loyal girl.
Jessica Hart's biggest moment in the tabloids came after she had walked in the 2012 and 2013 Victoria's Secret Fashion Shows. American pop singer Taylor Swift at that time was hanging around the Victoria's Secret models, being friends with them and singing at the shows. Some thought that Taylor was tacitly implying that she, too was a Victoria's Secret girl - or of that quality of beauty.
After the 2013 show, Jessica apparently felt that way about Taylor. She told the press:
God bless her [Taylor Swift's] heart. I think she's great. But I don't know, to me, she didn't fit. I don't know if I should say that. This quote got a lot of media play.
Well, Jessica is free to say whatever she likes. However, Taylor Swift can say whatever she likes, too. Apparently - and this is all conjecture - Taylor did not take kindly to being called out as not quite at the level of a Victoria's Secret model. Again, pure conjecture, but some believe that Taylor Swift heard about Jessica's comment and did some talking of her own - to the people that run the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
Now, Ed Razek - he's the one that happens to run the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show - vehemently denies that anything of the sort took place. However, Taylor Swift appeared at the 2014 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show - and Jessica Hart did not. Some "sources" said that Taylor Swift got Jessica banned. Apparently, Jessica's troubles did not end there, but someone spilled some scalding hot coffee on her feet at an airport soon after. Jessica Hart has not been invited back to the show ever since.
Jessica Hart had her contract with the firm's Body by Victoria line renewed after the controversy, so she definitely hasn't been banned from working from the company - but the fashion show may be another matter. As for Jessica, she takes it philosophically:
It was taken out of context, but I have certainly learnt my lesson.Yes, don't mess with the big dawg, you may get bitten.
