Jelena Noura "Gigi" Hadid (born April 23, 1995), better known as just Gigi Hadid, represents a new wave of Victoria's Secret models. Along with Kendall Jenner, she made her Victoria's Secret Fashion Show debut in 2015 and looks set for as many more as she wants to be in over the next decade. While many Victoria's Secret models take years to build a reputation, these new models took no time at all to get their names on everybody's lips. Let's see what we can find out about this promising new crop of supermodels, but focus on Gigi Hadid in particular.

Supermodels usually don't get into politics, and when they do, it's usually a bad idea. That's not because they are not entitled to their own opinions and views - because they most definitely are - but because models are not politicians and are trying to sell products to people of all political persuasions. Offending part of the audience you are trying to reach can be unproductive for the people hiring you. During an impression of her, Gigi made what many interpreted to be a political commentary while co-hosting the 2016 American Music Awards on 20 November 2016. She did a bit playing Melania Trump, affecting an accent, pouting her lips, and saying, "I love my husband, President Barack Obama, and our children, Sasha and Malia."
Below is the video of the monologue (it may be pulled, apologies if it is).
This apparently was a reference to claims - admitted by the Trump campaign - that Melania inadvertently plagiarized a speech once given by Michelle Obama. Obviously just doing something written for her by others, the bit caused a firestorm of controversy. The crowd did not seem to respond much to the bit. Gigi wrote the note above as an apology. If there are any ruffled feathers over the performance, hopefully that clears everything up. As they say, all publicity is good as long as they spell your name right!
